Inauguration of the largest private health facility in the Basque Country, the IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic

Igualatorio Médico Quirúrigico officlally inaugurated their new clinic, known as Clínica IMQ Zorrotzaurre, this morning. It is the largest private health facility in the Basque Country.

Located on the Deusto riverside area of Botica Vieja (close to the Euskalduna bridge), the new clinic, designed by architects Carlos Ferrater and Alfonso Casares to be eco-efficient and sustainable uses cutting-edge technology to offer integral treatment of all the medical specialisations. It will employ 350 health professionales.

Over 6 floors and 3 underground levels (over 40,000m2 of floor space), the clinic has 157 rooms with 210 beds and offers a critical care unit, external day surgeries, a day hospital, casualty services, operating theatres, gynaecology and neo-natal unit, cancer unit, image diagnosis area, nuclear medicine and cardiovascular surgery among other services.

Total investment in the project (land, building, installations and equipment) totalled 85 million euros over the two year duration of construction.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the IMQ Chairman, Pedro Insunza and was attended by over 500 guests including the Mayor of Bilbao, Iñaki Azkuna, the Vizcaya Provincial Council Chairman, José Luis Bilbao and the Basque Government Health Minister, Rafael Bengoa.

The new IMQ clinic is the second building to be finished under the aegis of the urban renewal of the Zorrotzaurre area. The first, the new headquarters of the engineering firm IDOM, was officially opened last September.
